Call for Submissions - Recipes and Stories for the City Cake Competition 2025

In celebration of Tel Aviv-Yafo's 116th birthday, the Tel Aviv-Yafo City Museum is hosting a festive competition called the City Cake. This competition invites participants to submit cake recipes that represent the cultural richness of Tel Aviv-Yafo and reflect the personal stories and experiences of those who make them.

We invite professional pastry chefs and home bakers from across the city to participate in the City Cake competition and present a cake recipe that expresses the spirit, history, and stories of the city or one that reflects Tel Aviv-Yafo through a culinary approach expressing personal, emotional, and sensory memories. At the end of the cake submission process and judging stages, the cakes will be displayed at Tel Aviv-Yafo's birthday event, which will be held in Bialik Square in April 2025 (*) and will celebrate the city's heritage through an unforgettable culinary and cultural experience.

Remember the Black Forest cake at Patisserie Adit? Do you have an old or new story from Dajani's malabi on Jerusalem Boulevard? Have you crafted a personal interpretation of Orna and Ella's cheesecake? Developed sentiments for Mi-ve-Mi's legendary Bavaria cream? Did you fall in love for the first time while eating the Gymnasium’s biscuit cake? Miss the picnic cake that Grandma made on Saturday morning before leaving for the park? Do you crave a spiced cake that reminds you of the spice shops at Levinsky Market? Come and create Tel Aviv-Yafo's City Cake – one slice, an entire city.

The City Cake competition welcomes entries in two categories: a Professional track for pastry chefs and professional bakers and a Home Baking track for passionate home bakers. All participants are asked to submit their original cake recipe, the story behind their creation, and its connection to our city.

Professional track winners will receive a selection of premium international baking books. Home Baking track winners will be awarded a professional baking course and a unique opportunity – we will serve their winning cake for one month at the Tel Aviv-Yafo City Museum Café!
